The name Althaea, which means "heal," comes from the Greek and refers to a rare herb. Marshmallow (also known as Marsh Mallow) is a significant medicinal plant that has gray-green, coarsely serrated leaves and loves wetness. The shrub is covered in tiny, 5 petalled pale pink flowers all summer long. Common marshmallow is a plant that grows along grassy banks and marshland and is native to marshy regions in Europe and Asia. This resilient plant is moderately simple to grow; it prefers sandy, moist soil, but is not picky about PH, and it can tolerate partial to full light.

Marshmallow plant leaves and roots are used to treat irritated and inflamed conditions; they are rich in mucilaginous chemicals that help soothe inflamed mucous membranes and evacuate mucus from the lungs and bronchial passages. The roots were used by Ancient Greek physicians to treat wounds and insect bites, as well as to ease toothaches and constipation. It was also used to treat coughs, stomachaches, bladder infections, and infections of the lungs. Marshmallow is a topical medication used to treat eczema and other skin irritations. We are pleased to sell marshmallow plants.
